Thrift Store Clock

So last week I told you about the picture I made for the girls' bathroom here. This week I'm going to show you how I found a hideous clock at the thrift store and turned it into something fabulous.

I'd been looking around for a clock to use in the new "rock star" bathroom, but just wasn't finding anything suitable. I thought I wanted an orbit clock like this one, but I didn't want to fork over the thirty bucks for it. So there I was, aimlessly searching for the perfect clock, when I found this little gem hiding on the bottom shelf of the thrift store in town:

This picture was taken after I had begun to spray paint the top. Isn't she ridiculous? In all her tacky, gold and plastic-y glory? I prayed that she worked, but for $2.99, I figured , what the hay.

Yep. $2.99. (Sorry about the upside down picture. "Professional photographer" I am NOT! LOL!) And with a AA battery, she was good to go. Score!

And here is the final product! So glam! So fab! So cheap! I am SO in love with it!

And here she is in her new new home and I think she's fabulous. Quite sophisticated with a coat of glossy black, eh? The only thing laborious about this project was taping off the actual clock mechanism, but TOTALLY worth it in the end. Blue tape is your friend, folks. I use it for all kinds of stuff. So anyway, whaddaya think? The bathroom is still in progress, but coming along. I was thinking about adding a third color as an accent, maybe purple? Just in little doses, but where and how is still undetermined...
